Dorothee shares her story about being a certified English/German translator. (A translator is a person who takes written words in one language and translates them into another language). She shares what her day looks like, and talks about the tools she uses in her job. She shares how she got into this line of work and says that growing up speaking German helped her in her career path. She also provides advice to those considering going into this line of work -- being bilingual is helpful but it's not enough to be a successful translator.
Interpreters and translators convert information from one language to another. Interpreters work in spoken or sign language, translators in written language.
Moderate-term on-the-job training
Although degree of study may vary, interpreters and translators generally need specialized training, available at colleges and universities nationwide and through training programs, conferences, and courses.
