Integrated Circuit Design Engineers research, design, develop, and/or test electronic components and systems for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use employing knowledge of electronic theory and materials properties. They design electronic circuits and analog and/or digital components for use in fields such as telecommunications, aerospace guidance and propulsion control, acoustics, or instruments and controls.
Licensure for electrical and electronics engineers is not as common as it is for other engineering occupations, but it is encouraged for those working in companies that have contracts with the government at all levels. Engineers who become licensed are designated professional engineers (PEs).
