I work with some very smart and very creative people, and they really bring the field to life for me. So I think that they're very much experts in their field, and it's really great to actually learn from them every day. It's almost like I'm still in school, because I learn so much every day throughout working with these different people from different backgrounds. So that's been very rewarding. The part that's most challenging, I think it does come down to time management because it can be high intensity. And in order to get the most out of it, you really have to put a lot in. So you have to always be ready to help out, or always be ready to take on a new challenging project. Because those are the most rewarding, but they're also the most time consuming and the most demanding. So just figuring out how to best use my time and to be a team player, I think, is the most challenging. The key decision I made was really just to put myself out there. To get this interview for this job, I had to make a 30 minute presentation to the group on my research. And this was the first job interview I had had, and I was very intimidated. But I did it, and everyone was so impressed because actually I wasn't supposed to, just coming out of undergrad. It was more of a requirement for master's students. But I did it anyway, and I did OK. And so I think just putting myself out there really helped me get the job. And I've been there for over three years now, so it's been a good place to start. I think once you're in the field it's not hard to find work. But I think finding the field is actually kind of difficult. Because people know about environmental science and they know about public health, but environmental health where the two come together is a little less well known. Once you have a degree in something like industrial hygiene, epidemiology, or toxicology, then there's plenty of opportunities-- especially in consulting, because it's such a niche field that it's very highly sought after. It's challenging, definitely. I think in any consulting field you're definitely at the mercy of your clients, and so you want to do your best all the time. But after you get your bearings in this new job, then I think you can set some boundaries about when you want to have your time and hopefully your co-workers will be respectful of that. And at my job at least they have been, so it's been OK.
