Jeff is a business owner and jewelry designer. To become a designer, he went the traditional route and did an apprenticeship for 3 1/2 years where he worked under a journeyman learning the trade. He also studied jewelry design for 3 months every year. He tells us that though of course creating great designs is important, it is also very important to learn the nuts and bolts of the business such as bookkeeping, marketing, and customer service skills.
Jewelers and precious stone and metal workers design, manufacture, and sell jewelry. They also adjust, repair, and appraise gems and jewelry.
