Mike, a baker, operates out of his home kitchen and sells his goods at markets. He finds the base of his recipes online and tweaks or revamps them by adding ingredients such as peach balsamic, chai tea, and earl gray. He tells us that he loves the creativity of making new cookies and experimenting with flavors.
Bakers mix and bake ingredients according to recipes to make a variety of breads, pastries, and other baked goods.
Long-term on-the-job training
Bakers have the option of getting certification through the Retail Bakers of America. Although not required, certification can show that a baker has the skills and knowledge to work at a retail baking establishment.
