Sales managers typically do the following:

-Oversee regional and local sales managers and their staffs.
-Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
-Prepare budgets and approve budget expenditures.
-Monitor customer preferences to determine the focus of sales efforts.
-Analyze sales statistics.
-Project sales and determine the profitability of products and services.
-Determine discount rates or special pricing plans.
-Plan and coordinate training programs for sales staff.

Sales managers’ responsibilities vary with the size of the organization they work for. Most sales managers direct the distribution of goods and services by assigning sales territories, setting sales goals, and establishing training programs for the organization’s sales representatives.

I typically get up at 4:00 in the morning. I normally get home between 7:00 and 8:00 at night. But yes, it's an exciting industry and an exciting job. The key decision that I made, I would guess, is I really wanted to be in an industry that constantly goes forward, that keeps on growing. I like the change and the livelihood of it. I suppose there's two types of job, something that you repeat every day, where the rule stays the same. And then there's the engineering or the medical industry where it constantly evolves and changes. From where I am, in South Africa, where there's limited space, it's quite difficult. In some of the bigger countries, where the market is much, much bigger it's not that difficult, but it is a selective group. And it's not something you can go and study for. So you need to do something and then gain experience, and hope somebody gives you a break to gain specific experience in being in that specific field. Even the different companies that's currently available in our market, I can't move from one company to another, because we are so specialized in what we do. That's a bad question to ask me. I bet answered quite badly at the moment, because it requires a lot. I need to be available 24/7 for my customers, being live support business we're in. But I do try and manage it as best I can.
